Termites in Trees – Can you save a tree from termites?
Termites in a Live Oak Tree

Can you save a tree with termites in it? Fortunately, yes! As demonstrated in the video, you can see how we are able to save this beautiful live oak tree in James Island, SC.  We are able to use Termite Baiting Stations to protect our customers’ properties from termites. Even termites in trees! In this situation, we installed an AG (above ground) station to the live oak tree to keep the termites from eating it to death. Oak trees are very symbolic in Charleston culture. We’d hate to lose even one!

Termite Tubes

In this video, you can not actually see any live termites. So, to the untrained eye, one could never know their tree was infested. However, anytime you see unbroken, fresh termite tubes, you know there is probably an active infestation. This is true in trees, homes, or almost any wood. Termite tunnels is another term for termite tubes. Termites connect their colonies that are underground to their above-ground food sources via mud tubes. These tubes are made from soil and wood combined with termite saliva. Formosan termites have similar habits to those of eastern subterranean termites. Meaning, both Formosan and subterranean termites use mud tubes/tunnels to connect their colonies with their food. The underground colonies are huge. On average, there are 350,000 worker termites in a colony. The termites are able to invade structures and trees using mud tubes constructed up from the soil to wood.
