Ants, Ants and More Ants in Charleston South Carolina!

Hi, this is Katie over at Advanced Termite and Pest Control. Wanted to talk a little bit about ants. If you’re seeing ants around your home, you’re definitely not alone. There are over 200 species of ants in South Carolina. Some of the most common types, however, include fire ants, Argentine ants, carpenter ants, field ants and pavement ants. Fire Ants can be easily identified by their bright red color. Their bite can be very painful as they attack in large numbers. They prefer to nest outside in sunny areas. Another ant to be concerned about are the carpenter ants. Those are also easily identified. They’re the largest ants that you’ll likely see. They’re black, and they can cause a lot of damage if they go undetected. They love old wood, old damp wood, they will bore holes and nest in it and likely leave little piles of sawdust behind which is the most common reason that people call us as they’re seeing sawdust piles. Pavement ants are very very small. They’re most often found outside in the cracks of the sidewalks but they also love pantry items like fruit and sugar. So if you’re seeing any ants inside on your counters around there, they could likely be pavement ants.
